The Camel Trail

The Camel Trail

This incredibly scenic route, which original started it's life as a railway line, is now traffic-free and delightfully flat, perfect for beginners. The trail both follows the river inland and out to sea.

Not up for the full trail? No worries! Break it down into three stages with straightforward routes between Wadebridge and Padstow, Bodmin, and Wenford Bridge. And guess what? Bike Smart is right in the heart of Wadebridge, making it the perfect starting point for any Camel Trail journey you choose! Saddle up and hit the trail!

Scenery that's hard to beat

Prepare to be awe-struck by the breathtaking beauty of the Camel estuary, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. On clear days, the scenery is simply spectacular! The river teems with a diverse array of wildlife, making it a special area of conservation.

If you'd like to dive further into nature, book a trip with our friends at Padstow Sealife safari or take a sea or river cruise on the Jubilee Queen.

Things to do

Keeping the trail safe for everyone.

The Camel Trail Code of Conduct

  • Pedestrians have right of way

The Trail has many different users including older people & people with mobility problems who find the level surface suitable for their use.

  • Please keep your dogs under control

Dogs that leave the Trail can cause damage to adjoining private land, the river & its wildlife. Dogs are recommended to stay on leash.

  • Please keep your speed down

High speed makes it harder to avoid other users & thus causes accidents. Try to warn people of your approach.

  • Horse riders keep at a walking pace

This reduces damage to the surface & the likelihood of an accident involving other users.

  • Please clean up after your dog and do not drop litter

Litter is unsightly, takes years to biodegrade & can be very dangerous. Dog faeces are a particular nuisance.

  • Please use the trail safely

Cyclists are advised to wear a safety helmet & to carry a puncture repair kit. Cycling with your dog on or off leash can be dangerous.

  • Please respect the privacy of adjoining properties and land owners

There is no public access to any adjoining land, or to the river, except on signed paths.

  • Please be considerate to all other trail users

Inconsiderate behaviour whilst using the Trail can spoil people’s enjoyment of it.

  • All hired bikes must display a licence disc

You are given a licence with every bike above a 20" wheel size, we ask these are not removed incase of council inspection
